Got My Mojo Workin Folk Blues Art
Title: Got my mojo workin
Size: 6.5" x 26"
Mixed Media, Acrylic on wood
This piece is inspired by the classic Chicago blues song "Got My Mojo Workin". Muddy waters and many others finished their shows with this blues anthem.
A mojo is a voodoo Talisman or charm. If a song can be a mojo this one worked for Preston "Red" Foster, the obscure artist who wrote Got My Mojo Working. He was still collecting $20,000 to $30,000 a year in royalties in the 2000s for penning this classic. The best know version of Got my mojo working was recorded by Muddy Waters but it was recorded first by Ann Cole. She learned Got my mojo working from Preston and shortly after went on tour with Muddy. She played the song live with Muddy's band in her opening act. Muddy heard her version of the song and later recorded it with his band. The rest is history.
I also have a version of this design adapted for print on demand products like T-shirts and home decor stuff.
Here are the lyrics to Got My Mojo Workin'
Got my mojo working, but it just won't work on you
I want to love you so bad, I don't know what to do
Going down to Louisiana to get me a mojo hand
I'm gonna have all you women under my command
Got my mojo working
Got my mojo working
Got my mojo working
Got my mojo working, but it just won't work on you
I got a gypsy woman givin' me advice
I got a whole lottsa tricks keepin' her around

Here are two of my favorite versions of Got my Mojo Working. Muddy Waters doing his quintessential version and Professor Longhair doing it in his own style. Longhair plays it to a fairly straight rock and roll beat. If you want to try playing this without a band on acoustic guitar or piano you might find it a little easier to do this way.
